Remember the old saying, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me?” Well, that couldn’t be further from the truth, especially for our youth.

Bullying and cyber bullying are very prevalent, especially with the rapid rise of technology and social media. Factor in such issues like sexuality and it makes these issues much more important to tackle.

Be mindful of the words you speak and the actions you take toward others, as they can have a powerful effect.

If you or anyone you know may be going through a difficult time and have thoughts of suicide or self-harm, know there is always someone to listen. Reach out to someone, or call the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 1-800-273-8255, 24 hours, 7 days per week.

For LGBT youth, also check out www.thetrevorproject.org #TrevorProject

Another fantastic resource, which I am glad to be supporting, is the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, www.afsp.org. #AFSP

It may also be a good idea to speak to a professional counselor.  If you’re in Broward or Palm Beach Counties and looking to start talking to someone, you can contact me. #SelfCare

**If you find yourself in immediate danger, call 911, or go to your nearest Emergency Room**
